Ristorante L'ulivo in Gelnhausen

Words and pictures can never do justice to describe this special place. I’ll try nonetheless. My father, who has a very high bar for Italian food and restaurants, described l’Ulivo as the very best restaurant he has ever been to. He has made this known to everyone willing to listen for the past 27 years. I was finally able to experience it for myself with my brother in 2008. My father was right. The food, the service, and the experience were unsurpassed and I’ve eaten many times at Casa d’Angelo in Ft Lauderdale (best Italian restaurant in America). Anyway, Mauro served us over 20 courses during a two hour experience, including four desserts. Each tasting was perfection in simplicity, flavors, and the superior quality of its ingredients. It was the best food experience of my life to that point. I have since returned with my children (twice), again with my sweetheart, and this past year with my 3 sisters and 4 aunts (my father’s sisters). My brother and I wanted them to experience what our father had always raved about. As a group of 11 people this last visit, we also took up 5 of their rooms at Il Borgo so we could take our time for the dinner experience. We had called ahead to tell Mauro that we had very special guests with us for this visit. He could not have been more attentive and charming to our sisters and aunts. Among the 26 courses he served us was a rabbit ragu, which was one of the very best things I have ever tasted in my life. We took our special guests to visit Florence the next day. They loved it of course, but when we asked them all if they were ready for a nice dinner in the city, they asked if we could instead have dinner at l’Ulivo again. That’s exactly what we did and Mauro again served us a dinner to remember. My little aunties talk about our experience at l’Ulivo with everyone they know. This special place isn’t just a fantastic restaurant, it’s an experience of a lifetime.

Excellence of taste to be experienced in a culinary journey from appetizers to desserts (including coffee and amaro) of delicious dishes, homemade and made "as it once was". Friendly and professional staff, really nice place that I highly recommend to try everyone. The courses cannot be chosen because the menu is the same for everyone, amazing! A must try!

Wonderful place with attention to the smallest details .. The tasting menu offered by the structure is of a high level two hours of real pleasure for the palate .. This is the second time I've come to this dream location where everything seems to be unreal, The sympathy of the landlord Maurizio who always manages to give you a smile and always ready to fulfill the customer's requests. Rooms always clean and tidy, mouth-watering tasting menus with high quality products to delight every palate, courtesy and education of the impeccable staff and attentive to every little detail, on the table there is never anything missing you do not need to ask for water, wine and anything else because replaced immediately. Today my wife and I wanted to celebrate the 41st wedding anniversary and being a special memory we wanted to do it in a restaurant we had had excellent experiences just 40 years ago. We returned here with many expectations and I must say that they have not been betrayed. Rather. I summarize: Welcome and service: excellent Environment and cleanliness: excellent Tasting menu: excellent Price: excellent The only negative factor is that we waited too long to return.

You forget to be in a restaurant because of the way they make you feel at home .. Spectacular food, excellent quality from all points of view, dynamic and friendly staff, and owner who always comes to the tables to have a chat and has always the bar ready, plus they have a liqueur called Ulivo which is the end of the world .. If you pass through Foligno, recommended ...

It was not the first time that we tasted that wonderful cuisine, the dishes seem too many but each truly deserving for the simple taste and the exaltation of its typical products. The friendliness of the owner and the courtesy of the staff are exquisite. We will keep going back every time we pass through.

I have known this place for about twenty-five years, since the father of Maurizio and Mauro, current managers of this extraordinary restaurant, has made me taste the intense and typical flavors of Umbria, and which have never set, indeed, improved. Courtesy and sympathy surround this structure immersed in the Umbrian countryside. Too bad you can not put 10 stars. Highly recommended.

I have been to 'Ulivo a few years ago with a group of motorcyclists, having a good memory of this restaurant I came back as a couple. They offer the tasting menu, with dinner starting at 20:30, a few seats and a warm and welcoming environment. For about two hours we are served genuine food at a constant but relaxed pace, just portions to be able to get to the end, even if most of the customers give up before, I with contempt of danger, I extend the belt and arrive until sweet. Now I'm not to mention all the dishes, I attach some explanatory photos, at least the dishes I remembered to photograph, contain the water I recommend. A special mention for wine, a bottle of white in two, like drinking grape juice, true wine without additives, superlative. Staff really nice that does not miss a gesture appreciated by my lady, a beautiful rose as a gift. Bill? € 55 in two, excellent. I recommend to call to book dinner, at least one day before.

I am a long time customer of this place, which is always a guarantee. The food is simply great: you'll get to sample tens of different examples of local cuisine, including home-made bread for bruschetta with local olive oil, pasta with truffle...my favourites are the toasted mortadella and the bruschetta with sausage and spinach. Everything is at the same time simple but delicious. Definitely worth the detour...or just the trip from Rome.

Fabulous restaurant adjacent to the Borgo dell 'Ulivo complex, to try and try again with very affordable prices and top quality ingredients! The tasting menu accompanied by excellent local and non-local wines is extraordinary. Thanks and a hug to Maurizio and all his staff for the competence, friendliness and sympathy shown during all the lavish dinners! People and places like that make you leave a piece of your heart in Umbria! Google's 5 stars are few, this restaurant deserves 6 and more ...

We were on the advice of friends and it was a great choice. The place is very nice and there is an internal parking. What can we say divinely, the food is excellent, many courses and the right portions. Very present quality truffle, very varied cuisine, excellent service. We went to this great restaurant yesterday for a birthday party. Delicious, abundant and excellent quality dishes. We tasted an excellent fresh truffle and a very tender braised meat. All accompanied by a good wine. Highly recommended !!!

The place is very comfortable with an open fireplace. They offer a fabulous tasting menu, the raw materials are of the highest level all at a really affordable price. The staff is very friendly and the two owners know how to put their guests at ease. I really recommend it to everyone !!! 🔝

Best Restaurant we know in Italy, I come here every year with my daughter for simply relax and eat traditional italian food, handmade at an open woodfire grill. Maurixio and his Team earned my five stars very well!
